Gourmet and smokehouse
If you follow the small paths to the south, you will find the gourmet and Michelin-starred restaurant Kadeau in one of the remote dunes, beautifully surrounded by beach, sea and forest. Here you can look forward to a completely new sensory experience of Bornholm. Local ingredients form the framework for the Bornholm-Nordic inspired menu, while local handicrafts decorate the surroundings. If you continue approximately 2 kilometers further south, you will find the small fishing village, Østre Sømarken. In the Middle Ages, the area was an elongated dune landscape, which was shaped by flying sand. During the 19th century, farmers and fishermen began to move in, and the area became a small fishing community.
Today, the fishing lodge offers a cozy holiday atmosphere with restaurants, a smokehouse and a chocolate factory. The atmosphere from the fishing community of the time is well preserved at the small "Bakkerne Havn", which is still an active fishing port. You can enjoy the catch from the harbor at the nearby Bakkarøgeriet, which offers delicious smoked fish according to old craft traditions.
Charming fishing lodges
7 kilometers west from Retrohuset you will find the cozy little fishing lodge, Boderne. At the beginning of the 17th century, fishermen began to supplement their income from agriculture with fishing. The fishermen's gear was stored in small red sheds, known as "Boder" along the beach, and from this Boderne got its name. You can still find the red stalls when you take a walk through the small fishing village. In Boderne you will find Bornholm's most exclusive clothing store "Stærmose", where you can shop for lovely brand clothing such as Malene Birger, Armani, Tommy Hilfiger, Boss as well as glass art from the popular local glass-designer, Pernille Bülow. In the outlet department, you can even find branded goods at particularly good prices.
Sunny beachdays
Not far from your holiday home you will find the small Sømarken Beach with a variety of stones and sand. If you have children with you, they will love jumping into the water from some of the larger rocks. If you follow the beach approximately 10 kilometers to the south, you will be greeted by a beautiful dune landscape. Keep an eye out for the impressive Dueodde Lighthouse - then you know you're on the right track.
Take a stop and enjoy the beautiful view of the hilly dune landscape, or take the trip up the Lighthouse and enjoy a beautiful panoramic view of Bornholm's south coast. If you continue the trip a little further south, it won't be long before you come to a sandy beach with sand so fine that it crackles when you step on it. Dueodde Beach has been named one of Europe's best sandy beaches, and with its shallow water depth and stone-free surroundings, the beach is popular with locals and tourists alike.
