See deers in the morning and "the moon" in the afternoon

Hasle has its roots back in the 12th century, but it wasn't until around 1500 that the town really became known. It slowly developed into an active fishing and agricultural town with an important secondary income in the form of brandy brewing.

Later, large deposits of clay in Hasle's underground formed the basis for the town's development. During the 1900s, competition from abroad became too great, however, and the raw materials companies had to close. They left behind some large excavation holes, which today have become beautiful lakes with a rich animal life. There is also a rich wildlife around Rubinhuset. Try to get up early in the morning and enjoy the deer on their morning walk along the forest paths right in front of your holiday home.

Find prehistoric crocodiles south of Hasle

Many millions of years ago, the world looked completely different. Bornholm was then close to the equator - and the climate was subtropical. On land, dinosaurs and large crocodiles ruled. The sand dunes at Hasle are of a special kind, which make it possible to find the rulers of the past. Fossilized dinosaur footprints have been found at Hasle Strand, as well as bones from ancient crocodiles at Hasle Strand. Take a walk along the beach and show the children the sand dunes. Maybe you won't find fossils of dinosaurs, but a multi-million-year-old fossil of a sea urchin is also fun.

Testing of submarines

During World War II, Hasle was an important part of Germany's submarine strategy. Almost all German submarines were sound-tested in the sea at Hasle with the aim of making the submarines as silent as possible. A submarine cable several kilometers long was connected to a well-guarded listening center close to the beach at Rubinhuset, so that the sound level of the submarines could be tested and adjusted. Along the beach you can still see traces of the old test station.

Beautiful sandy beach and wild rocks

The German submariners probably didn't have time to enjoy the fact that Hasle has one of Bornholm's best sandy beaches - which, oddly enough, is also one of the beaches with the fewest tourists. The beach is widely used by the people of Bornholm, but it is only in recent years that tourists have noticed Hasle's qualities as a holiday destination. In addition to being an atmospheric city with a nice beach, the city offers, among other things, exciting art exhibitions, a cozy harbor environment and a nostalgic herring smokehouse. The herring smokehouse also functions as a living museum that shows the development of herring smoking through the ages. Stop by and have a fun experience as well as some delicious smoked herring.

Steep cliffs create contrast

A little north of Hasle lies the old granite quarry in Vang called the Ringebakkerne. The steep cliffs are a fantastic contrast to the soft white sand on the beach at Rubinhuset. Ringebakkerne has supplied granite for many of Denmark's major construction projects - it was ex with granite from here that the foundation for the Great Belt Bridge was built. Today, the granite quarry is closed, but is used instead for rappelling and climbing. Stop by and experience the daredevils on their way up the vertical cliff sides - or just enjoy the fantastic view. It is rare for the site's breeding pair of peregrine falcons to eat tourists, but that is why you must not climb up to their nest anyway. Instead, you can enjoy the fantastic birds high in the sky scouting for food.

The lunar landscape at Hasle

The beach at Rubinhuset is beautiful with white sand, but if you walk south along the beach, the beach will change character to coarser and darker sand. And suddenly you come to a landscape that almost looks like the moon. During World War I and World War II, coal was mined in the forests behind the beach, and the excavated layers were hauled in small train cars and tipped off at the shore. This is why this landscape arose, which today is called "Kultippen". A visit to Kultippen is a fun experience - and the old coal wagons are still there.

The rock formation "Jons Kapel"

A little north of Hasle are the small idyllic fishing grounds Helligpeder and Teglkaas as well as the impressive rock formation "Jons Kapel". According to the story, Jon washed ashore at the rock formation after a shipwreck. Grateful to have survived, Jon then began to missionary Christianity. From the high rocks - some of which have the shape of a pulpit - Jon preached the Christian message to the pagan population, and in the vernacular the rock formation was therefore called "Jon's Chapel".

Beautiful art at Grønbechs Gård

If you are interested in art, you will love the house of the Bornholm artisans "Grønbechs Gård", where there are beautiful exhibitions with ceramics, glass and paintings almost all year round. Grønbechs Gård is approximately 1,300 meters from Rubinhuset.

Fantastic sunsets

Hasle Beach faces west. The beach is wonderful for a swim, but also try an evening walk on the beach. Stick your toes in the warm sand and enjoy the most beautiful sunsets.
