From the harbour, you can walk along the narrow streets to the square, where there is always a great atmosphere – especially on market days, where you might be able to get a good deal from one of the locals. We recommend that you visit ”Svaneke Købmandshandel”, which is a charming traditional grocery store, where time was stopped in the 1950s.

Handmade liquorish, chocolate, ice cream, and hard candy. Do visit the local smokehouse, with its fish delicacies, or Svaneke Bryghus with its critically acclaimed beer. Of course you need to take part in the local version of the lottery: ”Chicken Bingo”. The game is very simple, 3 chickens are let out onto a large bingo field, and it is your job to guess which of the numbers receive the first ”greeting” from one of the chickens. Chicken-Bingo in Svaneke has been voted by Berlingske Tidende as Denmark's third best holiday experience.

It is not just the tourists that love Svaneke. Svaneke is the town with some of the highest real estate prices on Bornholm. Not just the local islanders move to Svaneke, many tourists forget all about their return ticket to ”Denmark”, when they have visited Svaneke.
