Experience Pentecost on Bornholm

Pentecost is an obvious holiday to gather and spend quality time with each other - also on Bornholm! Move the Pentecost coziness to the Sunshine Island, enjoy some relaxing days together, and the early Danish summer. At Pentecost on Bornholm, there are somewhat fewer tourists on the island than there are in the middle of summer, and the prices are also much cheaper. There is therefore no excuse not to go if you are considering spending the Pentecost weekend on Bornholm. On this page you will find inspiration for where to stay and what to experience on Bornholm at Pentecost.

Where to stay during your Pentecost holiday

Bornholm offers many lovely holiday resorts. If you are travelling with children, it is obvious to visit one of the island's many holiday parks. A holiday home in a holiday park is a nice base. Depending on how many you are, both children and parents can have their own bedroom while you can enjoy a lot of presence in the living room, where both the living room and kitchen are located. Most holiday homes also have a lovely terrace that invites you to board games and dine in the early summer sun. The advantage of staying in a holiday park in Pentecost is that you have access to a lot of good communal facilities, to the great joy of the children. They can romp around on the playground or bouncy castle and make new playmates while you enjoy a glass of wine or read a good book. The holiday parks also have pools where both you and the children can enjoy a refreshing dip.

If you are traveling as a couple or alone, it is obvious to choose some of the island's charming holiday apartments for 2-4 people. They can be found all over the island, so you can choose the location that best suits your Whitsun holiday. If you like a sea view, you can choose a holiday apartment by the water - for example these beautiful holiday apartments with sea views in Sandkås. If you dream of a Pentecost in a luxurious hotel, you should look towards Rønne, which has two of the island's absolute best hotels. A hotel stay is the ultimate form of well-being and pampering at Pentecost.

What should you experience at Pentecost?

Pentecost is a great time to visit Bornholm. The island's sights, shops and eateries have long since woken up from their winter hibernation - if they have been hibernating at all - and have already served their first many guests. You can therefore be absolutely sure that Bornholm is more than ready to welcome you and give you some eventful days. Here are 3 things you should experience if you visit Bornholm at Pentecost:

  1. Whitsun lunch at the world's smallest trotting track
Maybe your family already has a tradition of Pentecost lunch, if not, it is obvious to start it now that you are going to Bornholm. Visit one of the island's many local smokehouses, such as Hasle Smokehouse in Hasle, and buy some delicious local smoked goods to take home for the Whitsun table. Enjoy lunch in your holiday home or pack a basket and take it out into the Bornholm nature. You can find tables and benches all over the island. If you don't know where to go, Almindingen, located in the middle of the island, is a good choice. Set the GPS to Bornholm's Brand Park, which is the world's smallest trotting track. If there is a trotting race, you can advantageously bring your packed lunch inside - you are welcome - and enjoy it on a blanket in the grass, or by one of the many bench sets, while you watch a Bornholm trotting race unfold right in front of your eyes. If there is no trotting race on the day you intend to have lunch, find a cozy place in the green area opposite the trotting track. Nature is beautiful here, and children can romp around in the nature playground.
  2. Discover the coastal towns of Bornholm
Bornholm has many charming coastal towns, and you should definitely set aside time to visit some of them during your visit to Pentecost. The island's probably most popular town is Svaneke, which you will find on the east coast. The town offers plenty of good dining experiences as well as special shops with handicrafts and other locally produced goods. Svaneke is also home to the island's local ice cream dairy, Bornholms Ismejeri, so don't forget to have an appetite for a scoop or two when you pay the town a visit. In addition to Svaneke, you should also visit Gudhjem, which in addition to its special atmosphere and beautiful cityscape, offers characteristic Bornholm cliffs. Take a walk through the town to Røverborg, which is located north of Gudhjem. Robber's Castle is one of Bornholm's hidden gems, and not many people know it exists. It is definitely worth a visit, and at the same time you also get to experience Gudhjem's charming city life.
  3. Brændesgaardshaven
Brændesgaardshaven is Bornholm's very own amusement park just outside Svaneke. Here you can spend many pleasant hours, either just strolling around the beautiful garden and looking at flowers, or by engaging in one of the garden's many activities. For example, you can go to the mini zoo and say hello to Gibbon or marmoset monkeys. You can also take a walk into the llamas' paddock and see if they want to greet you. Follow the Jobostien, a path of obstacles that winds through the park. Walk on the water lilies on the water, be careful! They are not completely stuck. Try to see if you can find your way to the high tower in the large Climbing Land. How do you get back down? Do you take one of the slides or do you choose to climb? In the center of the garden is a large lake. Take one of the rowing boats and sail out to the island in the middle, where ducks and other birds live. It is allowed to sail to the island, but you are not allowed to climb it. At Pentecost, Brændesgaardshaven's water park is also usually open. Feel the rush in your stomach as you slide down the water park's water slides. Try the wide slide, where you can slide two at the same time, and see who gets there first. The water park also has a water park for the very young children.

Beautiful Pentecost days on Bornholm

There are many things you can get to grips with during Pentecost on Bornholm. The Bornholm nature is always open and Pentecost is a really good time to explore it. Everything has sprung out, so nature is green and beautiful to look at. The temperature is pleasant - maybe even warm - and then it is just a little more fun to stroll along the chalk-white beach at Dueodde, or explore the medieval castle Hammershus. Although the water temperatures are not that high yet, many of the island's guests also take advantage of Pentecost for a dip in the blue waves. If you are not into sand between your toes, drive to Snogebæk. All the way out on the pier you will find a step ladder so you can easily get up and down the water - if you do not prefer to jump in. Afterwards, you can warm yourself in the sun on the benches around the stepladder, or walk the short way to Søren's Tavern, where you can warm up with a hot cup of coffee or enjoy a cold beer. Sørens Tavern also makes some delicious pizzas.
