Abildgaard is one of the most popular holiday locations on Bornholm. This is partly due to the combination of the wonderful location in Sandkaas, close to the sea and the beach, the hotel’s lovely rooms, as well as the fact that both a breakfast and evening buffet is always included in your room rate.
For this reason, Hotel Abildgaard is often referred to as ”Abildgaard – All inclusive”. Every evening you can expect a large varied buffet, with a different theme every night of the week. Unlimited access to beverages during dinner (tap beer, wine, and soft drinks) is also included. If you have a sweet tooth, ice cream and cake for dessert is also included, as are tea and coffee.

Beautiful hotel rooms/holiday apartments in Sandkaas
The single rooms at the hotel are located in connection with the restaurant building, while the other rooms are located in separate wings with views of the sea, surrounded by lovely green areas. You can look forward to ”new” and beautiful rooms, designed for 1 to 6 people, so that you can choose the type of room that fits your needs. All rooms offer a lovely terrace with morning sun, from some of which there is a view of the sea. With exception of the single rooms, all rooms also have their own kitchenette. Wonderful location in Sandkaas
Hotel Abildgaard is wonderfully situated in Sandkaas. You are in walking distance to the small fishing village Tejn, where you will find grocery shopping facilities and a lively harbour with fishing boats. In fact, Tejn is home to the world’s largest salmon trolling competition. Along the coast in front of Hotel Abildgaard, lies the charming coastal pathway, which will take you all the way to Allinge. Look forward to gorgeous panoramic views across the sea. Of course, you will need to experience the lovely beach in front of Hotel Abildgaard, Sandkaas Beach, with its beautiful combination of soft white sand and tall rocks. The history of Hotel Abildgaard
The German art dealer, Herbert von Gravens, fled to Bornholm during World War II, where he decided to take up residence at the farm Abildgaard in Sandkaas. The farm was idyllically situated with views of the Baltic Sea, and surrounded by apple trees. Soon, it became somewhat of an artists’ commune, attracting famous avant-garde artists such as Carl-Henning Pedersen and Asger Jorn. In the 1970s, the land around Abildgaard was subdivided and transformed into Hotel Abildgaard, so that, today, you are able to spend your holiday in these lovely settings.

Arrival days
At Hotel Abildgaard you can arrive and depart on any days of the week - there are no fixed arrival days, and you do not have to rent a whole week. It allows you to design your holiday exactly as you wish, just as you can choose to travel on days where the ferry is cheapest. The cheapest ferry days are usually Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. We are happy to make a package holiday for you, where the ferry is included in your room rate.
Check-in
You will be able to check in to your room from 3 PM.
Check-out
On the day of departure, we ask that you leave the room no later than 10 AM, so that we can prepare the room for the next guests.
Allergy-friendly rooms
The rooms at Hotel Abildgård are hypoallergenic. All rooms are non-smoking. If you are allergic to pets, you can choose a room where there has been no pets. Just let us know by leaving a note in the comment field, and we will make sure to reserve a allergy-friendly room for you. Any allergies to down are no problem either, as our duvets and pillows doesn't contain down.
Baby package
You can rent a baby package consisting of: High chair, crib, stroller (sturdy umbrella stroller with a canopy, where the backrest can be fully reclined), changing pad, and bathtub. We kindly ask you to reserve the baby package when you make your booking. You should pick up the baby package at the reception upon your arrival, and we ask you to return the equipment to the reception at your departure.
Payment terms
We ask that you make a deposit of 25 % of the total fee, no more than 10 days after receiving your order confirmation. We ask that you pay the residual sum no later than 45 days prior to your arrival. If you have made your reservation less than 45 days before your arrival, we ask that you pay the fee in full, the day after receiving your order confirmation.
Bus to Hotel Abildgaard

Bicycle rental
You can rent bicycles in the reception at Hotel Abildgaard.
Duvets / Bed linen
We will of course ensure that the beds in your room are made for your arrival. So you don't have to think about bringing duvets, pillows, sheets or bedding. We also make sure that there is a set of towels (one large and one small). If you want a beach towel to use on the beach, we kindly ask that you bring this yourself.
Electric cars
Unfortunately, it is not legal to charge electric cars by pulling power cables out of the holiday apartment, as the resort's electricity network is not built for the load from electric cars. If you have an electric car, we instead refer you to charging at the public charging stations nearby.
Disablity
Unfortunately, Hotel Abildgaard is not suitable for you if you use a wheelchair, as there are no handles or other handicap equipment in the bathrooms. Hotel Abildgaard, on the other hand, is very suitable if you use a walker, as there are very few steps in and around the hotel. However, you should be aware that the entrance to the reception from the coastal road is relatively steep. If you want a more disabled-friendly resort, we recommend Griffen Spa Hotel or Hasle Holiday Park.
Dogs
Dogs and cats are welcome in some of the rooms at Hotel Abildgaard. If you are bringing a dog or cat, we ask that you please inform us of this when you place your order. Due to the extra cleaning that we have to do, there will be a surcharge of EUR 48 to bring your dog or cat. The price applies to the entire stay. If you bring 3 or more dogs, the surcharge is EUR 96. Every year we have many guests who bring their dog or cat to Bornholm. It's easy - just remember that the requirements of the Swedish customs authorities must be met. Normally, the rules for importing animals into Sweden are restrictive. However, the rules are very relaxed when you are "just" passing through to Bornholm. Shopping
Dagli' Brugsen in Tejn is the closest grocery store (approximately 1,000 meters from Hotel Abildgaard). Allinge is approximately 3,000 meters from Hotel Abildgaard, and here you will find Netto and Superbrugsen.
Internet
There is free wireless internet at Hotel Abildgaard. Transmission strength may vary. If you need to use the internet connection for work-related matters, we therefore recommend that you bring your own mobile broadband. If the network does not function optimally, this does not provide a basis for financial compensation. You will find the code for the internet in your holiday home.
Kitchen appliances
With the exception of the single rooms, all rooms at Hotel Abildgaard have a good and functional mini-kitchen. There is kitchen equipment in the room (pots, pans, plates, glasses and cutlery). Please note that dishwashing is not part of the daily cleaning. We therefore ask you to clean the kitchen equipment you use yourself.
Keys
You will receive the key to your room in the reception at Hotel Abildgaard. It works easily - and it's no problem if you arrive late in the evening and/or outside reception opening hours.
Parking
You can park for free by Hotel Abildgaard.
Cleaning
With the exception of Sunday, we make sure to carry out a light cleaning of your room every day. Of course, we also ensure that your room is cleaned upon your arrival, just as we clean the room after your departure. Please note that washing up kitchen cutlery, plates and pots is not part of the daily cleaning. We therefore ask you to clean the kitchen equipment that you have used during your stay.
Restaurant
Hotel Abildgaard's large breakfast buffet and evening buffet are included in your rental price. Likewise, unlimited drinks for dinner (wine, beer, water, coffee and tea) are included. Damage-Guarantee
We can all accidentally make an injure - even when we're on holiday. At Abildgård you can buy a Damage Guarantee, which ensures that you do not have to pay yourself for the damages that you or your traveling companions may cause to the holiday home and/or its furnishings. The price for the damage guarantee is just EUR 13 per booking. When you make the booking for your holiday home, you just have to state that you want a damage guarantee, and it will be added to your order.
Swimming pool
As a guest at Hotel Abildgård, you can use the beautiful pool for free. The chlorine content and filters in the swimming pool ensure that any bacteria and viruses are removed, so that you and your family can safely swim in the pool during your stay.
Smoke free hotel
All Hotel Abildgård's indoor areas are non-smoking.

Hotel Abildgaard is located on the coastal route between Gudhjem and Allinge, in the small village of Sandkaas. "Kaas" is an old Danish word for a small harbour, and with a lovely sandy beach, Sandkaas received its name many hundred years ago. To many, Sankaas is ”the real Bornholm”. Here you will find the picturesque combination of soft white sand and tall rocks.
Take the coastal pathway to Tejn...
In front of Hotel Abildgaard you will find the coastal pathway, where you can walk between the rocks and the sea, and experience some of the most beautiful nature on Bornholm. If you take a right, when exiting the hotel, you will reach the fishing village of Tejn within a few hundred meters. Tejn offers a wonderful maritime atmosphere, and is home to the largest trolling competition in the world: Trolling Master Bornholm, where hundreds of boats compete to catch the biggest salmon. In Tejn, you will also find a local supermarket. When you are in Tejn, you must visit Penyllan Brewery. It has been voted Denmark's second best brewery. We can also recommend a lunch at Skipperkroen.
...the coastal pathway to Allinge is even more beautiful
If you take a left, when exiting the hotel, you will be heading towards the largest town on northern Bornholm, Allinge. Before you reach Allinge, you will pass Sandkaas Beach. Because of the trees in front of Sandkaas Beach, it is hard to spot for the passers-by on the coastal route. For this reason, the beach is almost exclusively visited by the local islanders. When you have experienced this wonderful sandy beach, you will soon understand why it is considered to be one of the secret gems of Bornholm. Do you want to jump in the water, or will you continue along the coastal pathway to Allinge? Soon, the tall rocks on the coastal path will be replaced by the charming timber framed houses of the old part of Allinge. The smell of freshly smoked herring will welcome you, as two of the best smokehouses on the island are located on the harbour in Allinge. On the harbour, you can expect the buzzing atmosphere of shops and cafes. Allinge is home to the annual People’s Democratic Festival, where thousands of people gather every year in June.

The coastal pathway continues to Allinge’s twin town; Sandvig. Just outside Sandvig, you will find the largest castle ruin in northern Europe, Hammershus. In the middle ages, the reign over Bornholm alternated between German, Danish, and Swedish, but regardless of the country in power, Hammershus remained the centre of this power. Hammershus is full of interesting medieval adventures – did you know that public user payment was also employed in the middle ages? You had to pay for your own executioner – and he always demanded advance payment!
At Hammershus, you also have the opportunity to experience the surrounding landscape by horse, or to get on a tour boat on a trip along the coast, from the nearby Hammerhavn. When you are sailing beneath the tall cliff side, it is easy to imagine why Hammershus was an impenetrable fortress.
