Towering viewpoints

A real family holiday comes with an experience centre, and that's exactly what you can experience if you visit the Bornholm Tower. The Bornholm Tower was originally NATO's most important listening and radar post during the Cold War. With the radars, it was possible to pick up signals far inside Russia; for example, the Bornholm radar at Dueodde had already picked up communications between Russian troops before the invasion of Hungary in 1956. When the Cold War was over, NATO lost interest in the listening and radar post, and today the Bornholm Tower has been transformed into a Cold War museum, which offers exciting stories about the role Bornholm and Dueodde played during the Cold War. At the museum, for example, you can see a real Russian MiG-15 fighter plane. Back in 1953, a Polish pilot "borrowed" a similar plane and used it to escape to Bornholm. In the Bornholm Tower, there are 400 steps to the top, so it is good that it is not far home to your holiday apartment at Dueodde Strandlejligheder afterwards - but you can also take the elevator. Exciting experiences indoors

Although Dueodde is ideal for relaxing beach holidays, where you can enjoy the relaxing sounds of the waves lapping, or the scent of the pine forest's treetops, there are also plenty of sights that can be experienced indoors. Just 10 km from Dueodde Beach Apartments you will find Bornholm's Butterfly Park, which offers a beautiful and exciting tropical heated butterfly house, where you can walk around among the exotic colorful flowers, plants, the scratchy parrots and butterflies that fly freely around you.

After that, you can continue in the sign of nature, and make the trip past Natur Bornholm in Åkirkeby. At Natur Bornholm, you can experience a natural history and educational activity centre that takes you on a journey 1,700 million years back in time. Here you can experience walking through the Bornholm Ice Age, being shaken by an earthquake, and maybe you will also meet a dinosaur or two on your way. See how the Bornholm bedrock lay as a glowing mass of stone several kilometers down in a mountain range, which over time cooled and became Bornholm granite as we know it today.
