On Balka you will find Balka beach, which has been nominated as Denmark's best beach several times. The sand on the beach is chalky white, and because Balka is located in a small bay, the water is usually calm. Balka Beach also has a shallow water depth, and the beach is almost without stones. Balka Beach is therefore a very child-friendly beach.

Rent a bike and explore the beautiful nature of Bornholm. The island's extensive network of cycle paths starts less than 50 metres from your holiday apartment. For example, try taking the cycle path to Nexø. The cycle path is built on the old railway and takes you through the beautiful coastal area to Nexø, which is Bornholm's second largest town. Along the cycle path you will find old redoubts from the wars against the Swedes in the 1600s as well as an idyllic heather area with grazing horses and sheep. At the heather area, you can go up to a bird tower, where you have a view of a large part of the Balka-Nexø area, which among ornithologists is known for its many rare birds. Nexø is a wonderful commercial town where you can shop or just enjoy your holiday and a good cup of coffee at a café.
From Nexø you can continue on towards Paradisbakkerne, where the paved cycle path winds idyllically between forest, heather areas and lakes. On the trip back from Paradisbakkerne to Balka, you pass Slamrebjerg, which is South Bornholm's highest point. If you are interested in history, you can see the foundations of a German radar station at Slamrebjerg, which sent warnings to the Germans during World War II, when British and American planes flew over Bornholm on their way to their bombing targets in Germany. It was also in this area that a German V-1 bomb fell in 1943. The bomb was a test rocket launched from the German Baltic Sea coast. Bornholm resistance fighters were quick to take photos of the bomb and have them brought by courier to London, where the photos provided valuable information to the British in their fight with the V-1 bombs. From Slamrebjerg you can look forward to it going downhill the rest of the way home to Balka. Put your bike in neutral and enjoy your holiday in Balka.

At Balka Beach, you can try pedal boats, wind and kite surfing and paddle boarding. You can also learn to surf at the local surf school. From the beach, you can walk on to the neighboring fishing village of Snogebæk, which offers artisans, clothing shops, cafes, ice cream dairy and, not least, Snogebæk Smokehouse, where you can taste the Bornholm speciality smoked herring or a fish buffet. On Saturdays, there is a large flea market in Snogebæk, where you have a good chance of making a good deal, and maybe you will want to eat one of the famous pizzas from Sørens Værtshus, which offers a cozy atmosphere in two former fishermen's cabins on the harbour.
In the evening, you can hear live music, and Sørens Tavern offers a great atmosphere for the whole family. From the ceiling hangs a rowing boat, which children and adults are welcome to climb into - and then you can rock the boat back and forth while singing along to the cozy songs. There is a special atmosphere around the special island harbor in Snogebæk, where you also have good chances of catching a fish if you have your fishing rod with you.
